screw the status quo. we need change and we need it now. we need not a leader who plays with words and public funds. we need not a leader whose years of service fall under the 'fiction' category. we definitely need not a leader who knows nothing. we require a leader who has conviction, who has the guts to change the seemingly unchangeable. we need... to prepare for 2007. Now.

The Long Goodbye

I know they say if you love somebody
You should set them free (so they say)
But it sure is hard to do
Yeah, it sure is hard to do
And I know they say if they don’t come back again
Then it’s meant to be ( so they say)
But those words don’t pull me through
Cos I’m still in love with you
I spend each day here waiting for a miracle
But it’s just you and me going through the mill
(climbin’ up a hill)

This is the long goodbye
Somebody tell me why
Two lovers in love can’t make it
Just what kind of love keeps breaking a heart?
No matter how hard we try
You’re gonna make me cry
Come on, baby, it’s over.. let’s face it
All that’s happening here is a long goodbye

Sometimes I ask my heart did we really
Give our love a chance ( just one more chance)
And I know without a doubt
It’s turning me inside out
And if we walked away
Would make more sense ( only self defense)
But it tears me up inside
Just to think we still could try
How long must we keep riding on a carousel
Going round and round and never getting anywhere?
(on a wing and prayer)

This is the long goodbye
Somebody tell me why
Two lovers in love can’t make it
Just what kind of love keeps breaking a heart?
No matter how hard we try
You’re gonna make me cry
Come on, baby, it’s over.. let’s face it
All that’s happening here is the long...long goodbye

Are you ever coming back again
I guess I’m coming back again

There's a bitter truth in this song. Saying goodbye is easy. Getting over it may take forever.

Piece of cake

This is no ordinary piece of cake.

This piece of chocolate chips cake means forever.

This cake means a lot more than just dessert. Every bite means more than just sweet sensation.

This cake wakes me up every morning. It says you've once had a beautiful breakfast with him. And it's enough to make my day shine.

This cake reminds me of how we talked about our dreams. It reminds me about how he reacted with my attempts to make him laugh. It's an endless memory of the words we've shared, even for just a couple of minutes together on the coffee table.

This is where I shared with you my frustrations, and you told me what exactly to do to appreciate it, to accept that it's really how life is. This place is where I saw the world through your eyes, and it felt nice. Then I realized hey! I turned out quite fine.

This coffee table started a whole new color in how I saw life. I started to appreciate everything... from the coffee that somehow lacks the taste, to the mistakes that I regret most. Then, I saw how wonderful you are. I'm having breakfast with a real wonder boy.

That coffee table means forever.

It reminds me of a place that could have been if only I have the power to twist fate. It's one small part of a whole different universe that exists only whenever I find my nightly soltitude with only the stars to listen to my woes. And I found heaven in this small place... something that I'll surely cherish till my last moment here.

And even as I die, I'd probably think about this piece of cake, this little coffee table where we shared small talks, laughed, felt gloomy, felt nice, together, once. And I'd be a happy soul if heaven is just composed of this small coffee table. As long as you'll be there to smile back at me, giggle for me once again.

Because I've always wanted to go back to our coffee table. To have coffee and share this piece of cake with you again. Because this coffee table, this little place of ours, is where I began to be. This piece of cake is forever. This coffee table is forever.

The story begins

Phil just can't believe what he just saw. He was just on his way to her house, with a bundled dozen of orange roses on the passenger's seat. It was raining heavy that night, but his wide smile could clearly be seen on the car's drenched windshield.

He got a chance to say the three words, at last. And this time, he's really planned it to the littlest detail. No damn storm could stop him now. No, not now when he finally have gotten over all obstacles to reach this point. So many chances have been wasted, there's no way he could lose this one now.

Perhaps not even a quick flash of lightning directly striking a tree that instantly bursts into flames and falls into where his car rushes through.

Rain pours heavily on his face as he keeps his bundle of orange roses safe in his arms. He just can't believe even this storm seems to be stopping him from reaching her tonight. "Geez, I will have to walk, then," he whispers in dismay. Yet, he seems not to mind how wrecked his car has become, or how soaked and unfit he is now to accomplish his plans. "No, I this day won't be ruined by anything at all!"

Smoke can be barely seen from afar, but now it seems the world has turned into but a rain-drenched stage for two extremes. On the left is a long path towards where she is. To the right, where everything seems to be drifting away.

But the gentle soul seems to have found focus now. "I have to hurry... she's waiting for me." So he went on to the brighter part of the "stage", filling his heart with tingly excitement in every step on his way.

It was like walking through dark corridors, and he suddenly sees himself in front of her beloved's door. It's a wonder how focus could make everything else in the world disappear in an instant. He was to ring the doorbell when another strike of lightning revealed a silhouette of a woman crying behind the curtains.

Then he realized where he really was that moment.

"Phil..." the girl cried. She runs to the door, somehow hoping that she could make it to where he is right now, hoping she could outrun time to save their story from it's sudden end.

On the gate, she found only a bundle of orange roses soaked in a puddle, a note simply saying "I love you", and smoke and flame coming from afar.

One last strike of lightning but it unusually never felt frightening for her. A white shadow of his face, his smile, his wonderful eyes flashes before her in a split second. It felt like being in Gene's arms once again.

"I love you, too, Phil..."

Her name is Celine. And this is her story.

Art by Ariel Atienza. I'm a big fan of his work. :)

I wish I have Doc Emmett Brown's DeLorean. You'd probably see this entry in Philippine history books: Right after saying this famous line, someone from the audience shouted these equally famous words (using David Letterman's tone)... "WHAT??!!! ARE YOU NUTS?!!!"

Here's the big irony: Pres. Quezon died of tuberculosis. In New York.

Yeahhhh....

Pseudo-Democracy

It took me a lot of contemplation to complete this one. So far with the way things are going I'm just so disappointed in everything. I'm disappointed for Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who had so many chances to prove that she was way better than Erap (being well educated, and coming from a prominent family), but instead she ended up being no better than the backstabbing bastards of the opposition. I'm disappointed because all the principles and convictions I fought for during the second EDSA revolution. But most of all I'm so disappointed in all of us, for failing to have a sense of political maturity.

You see, Katie and I had an earlier disagreement about Jose Rizal's philosophy. I have said it before that I'm not a fan of him, and I think P.I. 100 in U.P. should be dissolved. But lately I'm begining to see it her way. Now Im begining to understand why Jse Rizal never fought for Philippine independence. Somehow he must have predicted that this would happen to us. Independence has served us no purpose but to become a catalyst that would lead to our deterioration as a nation. Not many of you agree with me on this one. I don't know, maybe during the time of Pres. Magsaysay et al. , was this country practicing genuine independence. Now Cory Aquino is all over TV again, bragging about our so-called legacy of "democracy". But as I see it democracy to us is just waiting for every chance that we get to oust presidents in the streets of EDSA.

Just what is democracy to all of us? Democracy in the Philippine scenario is like a 5 year old toddler with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), given a detonator to an active nuclear bomb! What Im driving at is that we never have been responsible about it. We never have been responsible in making sure that Trapos don't win the elections, but hey for a bag of grocery items or even a ham and cheese sandwich we sell our votes. We can't even be responsible enough to follow simple traffic rules everyday. All we do is that we wait for the first chance/excuse that we get so we can rally and blame presidents.

The way I see it, another 300 years will pass and we will still be blaming Ferdinand Marcos for our misery. Come to think of it, is this time better than his? We have press freedom, but the law enforcers can't even protect those who uphold the truth in media. There is freedom to vote, but we either vote for incompetent corrupt public officials, or we even help them cheat.Human rights are respected, but not the right of every accused to have a speedy trial. There is no more curfew and we can go wherever we want whenever we want, but we probably won't do that because the streets are not safe. We don't practice military discipline among pedestrians anymore, but this has been used as an excuse for people to violate even the simplest traffic law. There are no more incidents of military abuses, but people in rebel infested areas always suffer between the cross fire, and also regular citizens abuse their authority nowadays. A corrupt but brilliant dictator was ousted in Edsa 1, only to be replaced by another corrupt and incompetent leader.

Come on people, let us not be hypocrites here. This isnot a Mel Gibson movie add that goes "life without freedom is no life at all". Life that is not free from suffering is no freedom at all. I'm not saying that I wan't another dictatorial regime or a communist one. I'm saying that democracy will not serve its purpose when we don't use it with responsibility. Is this our destiny as a nation? To keep waiting for the chance to oust a president? -Ahmad

Blue Eyes Blue

by Eric Clapton

I thought that you’d be loving me.
I thought you were the one who’d stay forever.
But now forever’s come and gone
And I’m still here alone.

’cause you were only playing,
You were only playing with my heart.
I was never waiting,
I was never waiting for the tears to start.

It was you who put the clouds around me.
It was you who made the tears fall down.
It was you who broke my heart in pieces.
It was you, it was you who made my blue eyes blue.
Oh, I never should have trusted you.

I thought that I’d be all you need.
In your eyes I thought I saw my heaven.
And now my heaven’s gone away
And I’m out in the cold.

’cause you had me believing,
You had me believing in a lie.
Guess I couldn’t see it,
I guess I couldn’t see it till I saw goodbye.

Chorus

’cause you were only playing,
You were only playing with my heart.
I was never waiting,
I was never waiting for the tears to start.

It was you who put the clouds around me.
It was you.

Chorus

Oh, I never should have trusted you.
Oh, I never should have trusted you.
Oh, I never should have trusted you.

Hopelessness

The recent weeks had been rather monotonous. We hear news that would have been avoided in the first place if we, as a nation, have learned from our mistakes from the past. Now, everyone's got a share of the consequences, even those who doesn't deserve it.

With the recent developments that besiege the country, I can't help but agree with 90% of this mail I received, especially in the context that "qualified voters in this country should have been the 'paying' taxpayers' themselves", not the noisy ones who never helped made this country alive.

Also, this guy and I have the same fear for this country: someday, out of hopelessness, all people who have a real sense of dignity would just leave this country. No one would be left here but those who have caused this system to rot since the very beginning.

Anyway, here it is: Please read this in its entirety, the author has a point!

Galing sa isang ordinaryong manggawa sa Pilipinas
-------------------------------------------------

WALANG KWENTA ANG PILIPINAS
By: jawbreaker.

SINONG "SILA"?

BAKIT YANG BANG MGA MASANG YAN NA LAGI NA LANG SENTRO NG PLATAPORMA NG MGA PULITIKO EH NAGBABAYAD BA NG TAX cla???!!!!

Sana magkaron ng POLITICAL AND NATIONAL CLEANSING.

Doomed to be jologs ang bansang to.

Good luck and God bless! Sana tama kayo at mali ako.

Who let the dogs out?

Honestly, I was to go out with a statement last week that Gloria need not tell the people that she is the voice behind the Gloriagate tapes, as doing so would just mean more tribulations for the country, the poor specially. It's a known fact-of-life anyway that cheating is part of the game. I guess I'm speaking too late now. Damage has been done, and further damage is expected in the days to come.

I saw the president apologize on TV last June 27. It's like watching a pivotal scene in a telenovela. I miss the days when all you can see on TV is a president, a plain blue background and the presindent's seal at the back when the highest authority on the land declares or announces something. Now, announcements made by the president needs real preparations: from the mood established by the makeup down to the pictures of grandchildren behind her. I heard a movie director has influenced this setup used for the public apology. Subliminal message is the essential key to affecting weakminded, and it seems Malacañang is well aware of this power convince (or to deceive?).

As the camera focuses on Gloria's sad face while making a personal appeal for forgiveness, I could not help but wonder: How are people taking this? This is a president asking for forgiveness on TV, for her so-called "lapse in judgement". Obviously, the real message is not to reveal, not to admit, not to explain. The real intent is to bring more questions to the already confused Filipino mind. Did she really admit a specific mistake in this public apology? "I'm sorry." For what? If she is pertainig to her lapse in judgement, then she admits that she's incompetence. Her incompetence to perform her tasks as president, even before being actually elected to the position, is the only thing established here. The Gloriagate scandal? Hueteng issue? Nah. For Gloria's minions, focusing a sad face on screen and the words "I'm sorry" is enough to melt your heart away. "I'm sorry" leads to immediate forgiveness, and forgiveness eventually leads to forgetting- that's what's expected. Anyway, forgive and forget is the only logical explanation why Philippine history gets screwed up repeatedly. I think iodized salt has an effect that is opposite to what is advertised.

I think I got her style now. Apologize, then brag about the accomplishments that she's done. Notice how she laid out (again) her so-called accomplishments since 2004 while the focus is removed from her face. Now, she's talking as president again. Now, it's like watching the EVAT commercial again. She's saying she's worth our forgiveness, as she did great for the country in the last few years. But question is: Does the Filipino feel any good in what she has done so far? She claims we got better economy now. The big question is- "NASAAN?!??!" She says we're getting rich, but is she pertaining to all of us?

Next step would be to put her family to exile. And they call this "sacrifice". She would sadly give up family life so that she could perform her duties well from now on. I call this CRAP:

1. Her husband, and probably his son Mikee, is going to the States. This, during the height of accusations against them regarding the Jueteng scandal. Instead of answering accusations, or facing the consequences of their actions, they decide to not to show their shameful faces here for a long time. And they call this sacrifice?! I call it bad eskapo. One that should be added to the list of misdeeds by the Macapagal-Arroyo clan.

2. Her husband, and probably his son Mikee, is going to the States. Going to the United States of America, for the common people, is like going to heaven. This is not sacrifice. This is vacation. (News broke out that Mr. Arroyo even did a stopover first in HongKong before heading straight to the US. Oh I see him and the rest of the family suffering in HongKong malls now! Whee.

3. Her husband, and probably his son Mikee, is going to the States so that she can perform her duties well. Huh?! What kind of reasoning is this? Does this tell us that all along, the family is to blame for her mistakes? Even so, does having a family on your back mean the inability to perform one's duties well? Again, I'd say her (or her adviser's) reasoning sucks.

4. Her husband is leaving for the benefit of the country. This, she said, after all the good things that he had done for public health, sports, etc. BAH! The scent of these petty achievements are outweighed by the stench that oozes out from his dirty past.

I just don't know how they let their family's name to rot either by false accusations, or real misdeeds that are probably shadows of the recent past. Or has power really corrupted their minds absolutely, that they don't even care how their names would be written in history books from now on?

Now, they say the next step would be to do a cabinet revamp. In the eyes of the people, I don't think that won't do any good anymore, if they're trying to gain the people's trust. Credibility has already been ruined. The only options now are: to show a REAL IMMEDIATE SOLUTIONS to REAL ISSUES faced by the masses now, or resign and give others a chance to prove themselves since they're at it.

Although Mrs. Poe's public display of... uhm... anger is unnecessary, I don't blame her for going public recently. The FPJ side is the first victim of this "lapse of judgement". Having just survived the death of her husband, who must have brought the grudge to his grave, it's but natural for a wife to express her feelings in every way possible. And, oh boy, Casino Filipino is a good choice for the venue, and the Filipino's frustration a good choice for company.

She is correct, though, in many of her points. One: Before you gain the trust of foreign investors, you should gain the trust of your constituents first. Two: By admitting "lapse in judgement", this sounds like she did stole the presidency. Third: She's right in saying that the Filipino doesn't trust her anymore. She is nothing but empty promises and selfish lies in the eyes of the common Tao now.

I smell deep trouble in the coming days. E-VAT takes effect today, and as the Filipino is threatened further by poverty and more overwhelmed by dismay and lack of trust in the government, it's probably like Gloria had just signed her resignation letter. Everything will come naturally. Like Cory Aquino, I will not support another EDSA Revolution, specially now that we have no clear choice for her replacement and the opposition is divided by differing solutions to the issue. But we're talking about people's betrayal here. Although there's no impeachment trial to happen this time, I think the Force will always find a way to balance itself.

These days, we will truly miss Cardinal Sin. Although I know it's not that good a Filipino trait since religion should always be considered separate from the State, we always rely on what the Church would say regarding all these ruckus. It's somehow our way to search for answers from those who has access to conscience. Obviously, we've got lots of questions now, lots of answers, too. We need guidance, and since no clear answer is visible, we can only pray for our country for now, until someone really good stands up for what REALLY is right.
